Top 10 Units for Promising Rookies

If you just arrived at OPTC (One Piece Treasure Cruise) or been playing for a short amount of time, it's very common to get confused by all the characters, stats, classes, colors, captain ability, specials, etc, etc, etc .. Because of this a lot of mistakes are made, and sometimes we invest our time on the wrong unit, ignore it or just sell a unit that could be very useful for future content.

optc top 10 units to begin

Like me for example, beginning the game and I'm all like: "Usopp ? Is attack is low, is captain ability don't seem to be good, and is special? Delay enemies? I don't need to delay anyone, i can just burst everyone with Luffy and Zoro. Pff, I will just feed Usopp to Luffy to increase his level."
Conclusion: a few weeks later i realize that freaking Usopp is very good and that I'm stuck because i gave it away for a power up 😢

So, to prevent this and more situations like this to happen, I'm gonna show a top 10 of units that, in my opinion, are very good to early/medium content and that you should have on your crew. Giving the fact that we are talking about early game content the units presented are all F2P (free to play).

Note: This list only represents my opinion. Probably i will going to leave out some units that you think that could be in this top. Tell me your opinion what you think about it on the comments. Probably this list will be updated later and all the feedback is nice. Thank you for spending some time here!

TOP 10 LIST

#10. Jabra (Fortnight)

STR | Powerhouse, Free Spirit

HP: 1992
ATK: 1210
RCV: 210
Sockets: 3

Cap. Ability: Boosts ATK of Powerhouse characters by 2.25x

Special: Deals 13x character's ATK in STR damage to one enemy. For Free Spirit characters, amplifies the effects of orbs by 1.5x for 2 turns (18 turns -» 11 turns)

Overview:

- Fortnight unit, easy to farm
- Overall stats are really decent
- Captain ability is very good to early content giving you a 2.25x boost to Powerhouse units
- Special is probably the best feature giving you a 1.5x orb boost (2 turns) for Free Spirit units
- Major drawback, the captain ability boosts one class and the special boosts another one, so using him as a captain will basically unable you to use the special
Summary: Solid sub unit and worth to have in your box

#9. Breed (Fortnight)

INT | Cerebral, Powerhouse

HP: 2002
ATK: 1311
RCV: 180
Sockets: 3

Overview:

- Fortnight unit, easy to farm
- Overall stats are amazing for a FN unit
- Captain ability is very useful giving you a boost to 2 different classes
- Special is the best part, helps you with orb matching for 3 turns and boost own attack providing a F2P INT "beat stick"
- Summary: Very good sub unit and worth to max. Can be very handy against enemies with high defense.

- Overall stats are not the best, low attack and decent rcv
- Captain ability is decent, providing good damage output along with some tankiness
- Special is pretty unique, boosting all units (with cost of 30 or less) by 1.5x and also reduces the cooldown by 1 turn
- Summary: Truly balanced unit. Either as a captain or a sub this unit will help you clear some content, it's worth to farm and max.

#7. Coby/Kaku (Fortnight)

PSY | Fighter, Driven    ||    QCK | Striker, Free Spirit

               HP: 1926                                HP: 2517
               ATK: 984                                ATK: 988
               RCV: 340                               RCV: 213
               Sockets: 2                              Sockets: 2

NOTE: This 2 units are used generally for the same purpose and have similar ability/value so i put them together at number seven.

Coby

Cap. Ability: Boosts ATK of Fighter characters by 2x

Special: Amplifies the effect of orbs by 1.5x for 2 turns (17 -» 10 turns)

Kaku

Cap. Ability: Boosts HP and RCV of QCK characters by 1.5x

Special: Amplifies the effect of orbs by 1.5x for 2 turns (17 -» 10 turns)

Overview:

- Both are units found on fortnights, easy to farm and max
- Overall stats are not great, Coby has more RCV and Kaku wins in HP
- Both captain abilities are bad and outclassed by other F2P units
- Special: this is where they shine. They have the same special and it is quite good. Coby and Kaku will give you a 1.5x orb boost (for 2 turns) to every unit. So basically you can use one of them in any time for a 2 turns orb boost.
- Summary: they don't have the best stats or captain ability but their special is worth the trouble. Farm them and get them maxed.

#6. Toy Soldier (Fortnight)

Yeah, so .. how many of you are now singing a certain Eminem's song? Hope I'm not the only one. Well, let's continue.

QCK | Striker, Shooter

Overview:

- Another FN unit, like the others, easy to get and max

- Overall stats are very nice, low HP but balances with very high ATK and RCV
-  Captain ability is very good to fast runs and deals a lot of damage. Has the drawback of increase damage received so you have to manage your HP carefully
- Special is amazing, helps you get rid of a lot of annoying stuff and randomizes the orbs that you usually don't want, and the best part: when maxed, only 6 turns of cooldown.
- Summary: As soon as possible farm the Toy Soldier, he will very useful either as a sub or captain. If you are afraid of his captain ability use him as a sub, it's totally worth farming.

Sockets: 4

Cap. Ability: Boosts ATK of all characters by 2.25x and boosts EXP and amount of beli received by 1.2x

Special: Randomizes all non-matching orbs, including  BLOCK orbs and switches orbs between slots three times (11 -» 11 turns)

Overview:

- Free unit given at the beginning of the game
- Overall stats are decent, nothing to flashy but will get the job done
- Captain ability is very good, giving a decent 2.25x to all units and a 1.2x boost of EXP (!) and beli. If you are a low/medium level player, you should use this Law all the time because will help you rise the pirate level so much faster.
- Special is good and quite underrated. Allows you to get rid of bad and block orbs, switch your orbs 3 times and only at a 11 turn cooldown.
- Summary: It's a free unit, special already maxed and with a captain ability that will really help you raise your level. It won't get better then this.

Overview:

- Fortnight unit, very easy to farm.
- Overall stats are pretty bad, the only positive one is the RCV.
- Captain ability is completely trash.
- Special: outstanding! It's just pure gold, and pretty much the reason she is number 4 on this list. It can be used for all kinds of stuff and nowadays, with Global reaching 3th anniversary, a lot of people still use this unit for advanced content.
- Summary: With Perona special the damage received is almost nil (only 10%), at the same time breaks almost all enemies defense (80%) and 'member that annoying mobs with high defense and low HP? Yeah, it will get rid of those as well with the poison. Maxed her as soon as possible.

#3. Mihawk (Raid Boss)

DEX | Slasher

HP: 3760
ATK: 1285
RCV: 15
Sockets: 1

Cap. Ability: Boosts ATK of Slasher characters by 2.5x

Special: Cuts the current HP of each enemy by 30% (32 -» 17 turns)

Overview:

- First Raid Boss of the game, nowadays are plenty of teams to beat it even if you just started the game, easy to farm, not that easy to max his special.
- Overall stats are amazing, the RCV is pretty low but the ATK is awesome and the HP is freaking high even for current standards.
- Captain ability is pretty straight forward and very very good, a flat 2.5x ATK boost for slashers. Put together a slasher team and most of early content will be a piece of cake.
- Special: 30% HP to all enemies is simply outstanding, one of the highest HP cuts in the game and if you use a Mihawk friend captain we are talking of cutting the enemy HP in half.
- Summary: The first raid boss to appear, overall it's a very strong unit and almost everyone has a maxed Mihawk in their box. It's amazing how even in the present, when a new raid or colosseum is released there is someone clearing it with Mihawk. As soon as you are ready go get him.

#2. Usopp (Golden Pound)

PSY | Shooter

HP: 1080
ATK: 648
RCV: 144
Sockets: 2

Cap. Ability: Boosts ATK of PSY characters by 1.5x

Special: Delays all enemies for 3 turns (15 -» 10 turns)

Overview:

- Golden Pound is one of the evolutions of the Usopp character that you receive after clearing Syrup Village, so it's free and very easy to get. Do not evolve him for his last evolution (Sogeking).
- Overall stats are bad
- Captain ability is pretty useless
- Special is top-notch. This unit is 2nd place because of this terrific special. At only 10 turns cooldown (max special) he will delay all enemies or 3 turns (!), giving you a lot of turns to finish the deal
- Summary: Get Usopp, evolve him to Golden Pound, max him out and leave it that way. Probably the best delayer in the game. Very very useful. From the low level players to the highest, everyone uses GP Usopp.

#1. Luffy 5 +

STR | Fighter, Free Spirit

HP: 2255
ATK: 1499
RCV: 284
Sockets: 3

Cap. Ability: Boosts ATK of all characters by 2.25x and their HP by 1.25x, boosts ATK by 2.8x after 4 Perfects in a row

Special: Deals 40x character's ATK in STR damage to all enemies, and delays all enemies for 1 turn (23 -» 16 turns)

Overview:

- And we reach number 1. Luffy 5*+ is the men and it's free. You can get him by evolving Luffy (the one that's in your box right when you begin the game) to Luffy Gear Second and then Super Evolve him to Luffy 5*+
- Overall stats are superb. ATK is one of the highest coming from F2P units. HP and RCV are very good and well balanced.
- Captain ability is matchless. Gives you a flat and rainbow 2.25x boost and hitting perfects will lead you to a 2.8x boost.
- Special is pretty good as well. Allows you to delay for 1 turn and deals a good amount of damage to all enemies meaning that will help with mobs.
- Summary: Luffy 5*+ is one of the best F2P units in the whole game and it's your go to guy for most content. In early/medium content will make your life easy and even with advanced content like colosseum or neo raids he gets the job done. Max him out and enjoy.
